December Bulldog Bark

Dr. Miller's Message

It is hard to believe that in a few short days we will be to the end of 2013 and then end of 1st semester.  As we wrap up the 2nd quarter and we begin to do some of our district wide benchmark testing, we will be working to see which students are making expected progress, which ones are making more than expected progress and which students are not making expected progress.

As we get this new data in between December and January, we will begin to make plans to move all of our students.  If you know that your child is lagging behind in reading, writing or math, I would encourage you to make time each day over the break for your child to work in these areas.  There are numerous programs that the NKC School District pays for that kids can log into from home.  If you are not on-line at home, see about taking several trips to the local library so your student can log on and get in his/her daily practice.

Our goal is to have every student reading, writing and solving math problems at or above grade level proficiently.  You are vital to your child meeting this goal.  Thanks in advance for finding time each day to allow your child to work on these areas.

It was great to see so many at Grandparents' Day.  We love to have you attend school events.  Please be watching for information from your child's teacher or listen for my Bulldog phone calls.  Thanks for a great 1st semester.

Claycomo Mid-Continent Public Library

Guess who’s coming to the library?

Santa, Mrs. Claus, and one of their elves will be visiting the Claycomo Library for a very special storytime.

After they read a holiday story, you can sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what you want for Christmas!

Bring the whole family and don’t forget your cameras!

Saturday, December 7 at 2 PM.

Storytime We’ll be reading holiday stories all month long. Join us for books, crafts, and fun on Thursday mornings at 10 am!

No storytime on Dec. 26.

Just 4 Teens

Let’s get creative!

Join us at the library on a cold winter night and warm up with some hot chocolate and mini marshmallows. We’ll be making holiday cards and glitter pine cone ornaments.

Thursday, December 12 at 7 pm.

Book Clubs

Did you know that the Claycomo Library has not one but two great book clubs?

One meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 1 PM to talk about adult fiction. This month, we will meet on December 18 and discuss The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian.

Our other book club is designed for adults who enjoy young adult fiction. We meet the third Thursday of every month at 7 PM. This month we will meet on December 19 to discuss A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron and The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.

Everyone is welcome to join us for coffee, conversation, and fun!

Recycle your holiday lights We have a recycling bin set up in the entryway of the library for your broken or unwanted holiday lights.

This just in!

Brand new books our staff recommends:

Daddy’s Gone A Hunting by Mary Higgins Clark. A suspense-filled thriller with a twist!

Gulp by Mary Roach. A funny, fascinating look at the digestive system.

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. An award-winning children’s book (that adults love, too!) based on the true story of a gorilla living in captivity.
