January Bulldog Bark

Dr. Miller's Message

It is always so exciting to start a new year.  Although this is a half point for the school year, we spend some time talking with our students about what has been going well with their learning and what they would like to change to reach their learning goals.

Our reading scores looked great with our December assessments of the whole school.  When looking at the kids that were with us for more than 1/2 of the semester ,we have very few students that did not make the expected gains in reading or reach grade level.  Look at these numbers!

                Kindergarten – 3 students

                First grade – 1 student

                Second grade – 2 students

                Third grade – 7 students

                Fourth grade – 11 students

                Fifth grade – 7 students

Please continue to read with your students, practice sight words, or set time aside for them to read to themselves each day.  We know that kids need to read more to improve their reading.  With that said,  we will have $1.00 books available every Thursday in the office to encourage students to own the books they love and want to read.  This will start on Thursday January 16th.  Your student can come to the office after the 9:00 bell in the morning or at a time their teacher has set up.

We will continue to work with our tutoring kids.  You may be contacted about adding your student to that group if they are needing extra learning time.  We expect our students to all reach their potential.

Thanks for all of the support you give your students and our staff.  It takes all of us to help kids reach their potential and believe that they can achieve their dreams.  Looking forward to a great 2014!
